An investigation has been launched after a fire ripped through a large industrial building at Devoran Metals.
Multiple fire crew were called to the Devoran area at 11:46pm on May 30 with Falmouth, Truro, Tolvaddon, Helston and Perranporth in attendance.
People were advised that they should keep clear of the area due to large plumes of smoke. Residents were also advised to keep doors and windows closed.
Cornwall Fire and Rescue service said multiple resources were in attendance at an Industrial fire in Devoran.
Posting on X, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are in attendance at a large industrial unit that is well alight. The incident also has two specialist officers supporting crews. Please avoid the immediate area of Devoran due to large plumes of smoke.”
By 3am it was reporting that the fire was out and all appliances had returned to their stations. It said an investigation into the cause of the fire would be launched during daylight hours.
“The industrial fire incident at Devoran has now ceased and all appliances have returned,” it said in a post on X. “Fire Investigation will take place during daylight hours today.”
Posting on Facebook, Helston Fire Sttion said: "Both the Water Carrier and the First Away were called from Helston to assist crews from Falmouth Community Fire Station, Truro Community Fire Station, Perranporth and Tolvaddon Community Fire Station to a large scale incident at Devoran metals.
"Helston pump worked hard to support the ALP and committed two BA teams, whilst the Water Carrier crew set up dams to help with water supply.
"The Incident Support Vehicle from St Just attended as well as the Welfare Wagon from St Mawes.
"Another long night for all crews who were praised for their hard work in avoiding the spread of fire to neighbouring units.
"Fire investigation will attend the scene in the morning."
Truro and Falmouth prospective MP Cherilyn Mackrory thanked for the fire service for its efforts in a post on Facebook: “Terrible news from Devoran this morning,” she said.
“I hope everyone in the business and village are safe and well.
“I know this was a significant response by our fire service. Massive thanks to our emergency services for their work, I cannot thank you enough for all that you do.”
This is the second major fire at an industrial building in recent weeks with what was described as, “a very large and significant fire” at Cockwell’s Modern Boats production facility behind the former Vospers site in Ponsharden, Falmouth in the early hours of May 16.
