A young mother from Helston has thanked members of the community after a terrifying ordeal in the woods.

Bryony Marie Bedford was at the Moors with her two young sons and dog on Wednesday when she was faced with a nightmare scenario: both her son Leyton and her dog Mishka became stuck in sinking mud.

“It just looked like a muddy area, I never would have thought it was sinking mud,” Bryony told the Packet.

“It was terrifying getting Leyton out, but then I turned around and saw that Mishka was completely stuck.

“I never thought I would be screaming for help down in the woods.”

Within minutes, a passerby walking his dog stopped to help. The gentleman calmly and efficiently pulled Mishka free from the sinking mud.

A group of young men also rushed to the rescue, offering immediate support and assistance. They helped calm Bryony and her two sons, who were "extremely frightened" by the ordeal.

Bryony has praised the young men and gentlemen who helped her during the incident. She said: “I can't thank the gentleman with his dog who saved Mishka and the young lads enough for their help and support.

"It was a brilliant feeling knowing I could count on the Helston community in my time of absolute terror and panic.”

Following the ordeal, Bryony shared her experience on Facebook and warned people of the danger of the sinking mud at the Moors.

She said: “My son Leyton was really shaken up.

“I want to make people aware of the sinking mud, it honestly doesn’t look like it but once you’re in it, you really are stuck.

“So, if anyone’s teenagers are down there this half term, just make them aware.”

The Moors is a popular year-round walking route known for its iconic stepping stones.
