The announcement of an A30 road closure during the same dates as the Royal Cornwall Show has sparked outrage – however changes may be afoot.

National Highways said they are ‘reviewing’ the closure for next weekend.

The closure, which will see the A30 closed between Chiverton and Summercourt from 9pm on Friday, June 7th until 6am on Monday, June 10th, coincides directly with the busiest days of the popular three-day event.

With thousands of people expected to attend the show, many of whom rely on car travel, the closure is causing significant concern. The timing has drawn criticism, with many taking to Facebook to express their frustration.

One person queried who had sanctioned such a thing saying some sarcastically, "Royal Cornwall Show weekend. Bringing well-needed money into the county after a miserable summer so far! Brilliant!"

Another added, "Could've waited until after Royal Cornwall."

The closures, which begin with overnight shutdowns between Chiverton and Mitchell from Monday, June 3rd to Thursday, June 6th (8pm-6am), are necessary for essential roadworks. While local access will be maintained throughout, drivers will need to use alternative routes via Chiverton, Chybucca (B3284), and the B3285 link from the A39.

However, the Packet has learnt that National Highways may be reconsidering the full closure on Saturday.

A spokesperson said: “We are currently reviewing the planned closures next weekend, in particular the Saturday daytime closure, and will provide an update early next week.

“We are aware of concerns around the Royal Cornwall Show traffic and will do all we can, taking on board feedback, to minimise disruption whilst pushing ahead with work to get the new A30 fully open.”
