“Avoid the area” is the message to members of the public following a large fire in Redruth this morning.

Fire crews were alerted at around 7:30am on Saturday, June 1 to the blaze in Cardew Industrial Estate in Redruth, where reportedly 3000 pallets and five shipping containers were ablaze.

Nine fire crews from across the county were called to tackle the blaze which has resulted in large plumes of smoke in the area.

A statement on the Cornwall Fire and Rescue website said: “We are currently in attendance at an incident on Cardrew Industrial Estate in Redruth.

“Crews from Tolvaddon, Hayle, Perranporth and Falmouth, Truro, St Just, St Austell, St Columb and Helston are on scene.

“The incident involves 3000 pallets and five shipment containers alight. The fire has spread to a single storey building containing cylinders.

“Members of the public are being asked to avoid the area due to the large smoke plume.”

Cornwall Council has also shared a post on its social media accounts asking residents and businesses nearby to the industrial estate to "keep windows and doors closed." 

The incident comes just days after a fire broke out at a large industrial building in Devoran.
