A GoFundMe page has been launched in memory of one of Helston's much-loved cats following her death today.
The Helston community have shared their sadness following the death of 14-year-old black and white cat Maisie who has been a familiar sight for many people walking past her at the top of Trengrouse Way.
Sadly, she suffered serious injuries this afternoon (Monday) and was later put to sleep leaving her owner Linda Jenkin ‘devastated.’
However, Linda has found some comfort from the outpouring of messages from members of the public with some sharing their memories of Maisie.
“I think all the lovely messages on Facebook prove how loved she was. She just loved attention,” Linda told the Packet.
“I’d come home, and she’d always be on someone’s lap.
“I have had people drop flowers down to us, loads of lovely messages of how people used to look out for her if they were having a bad day, they’d just come and sit on the bench with her.”
Linda has also thanked people for their photos of Maisie as well as flowers.
Since the news broke of Maisie’s death, hundreds of comments have been posted on Facebook from people saddened by the news.
One person wrote: “Maisie was a beautiful cat, I looked out for her on my way to work every morning. I smiled to see a young girl stroking her this morning. She was loved by so many people.”
Another comment left said: “Was always so lovely to see how she interacted with the kids coming or going to school. She was one of Helston’s characters.”
In the wake of this news, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover Maisie’s vet bills, cremation costs, and a small memorial to honour her memory.
So far, £320 has been raised. You can see the fundraising page here: www.gofundme.com/f/for-maisie-and-her-family.
Linda said she is ‘grateful’ for the GoFundMe page to help with costs and hopes the memorial will bring be a permanent reminder of Maisie.
