Helston residents have paid tribute to a much-loved cat following her death on Monday.

14-year-old Maisie was a familiar sight for many people walking past her at the top of Trengrouse Way.

Sadly, after suffering severe injuries on Monday afternoon, Maisie’s owner Linda Jenkin made the heartbreaking decision to have her put to sleep.

The news of Maisie’s death sparked an outpouring of love and support from members of the public on Facebook.

“She was so cute,” said one person. “I always loved stroking her when I walked past that way, and she would meow.

“I would give her fuss even when it was raining or sunshine.”

Another person said: “My daughter and I used to love to watch out for her on the fence when we drove past, we used to worry when she wasn’t there.”

Linda has thanked those who have sent messages, flowers, and photos of Maisie throughout the week.

On the day of Maisie’s death, a GoFundMe page was launched, quickly exceeding its goal to cover the cost of vet bills, cremation, a headstone, and other expenses.

However, now that donations have reached £785 the page will be closed. Bethany Cowls, a family member of Linda said: “We have more than enough to pay the vet bill, cremation a headstone and few other bits.

“We cannot express how grateful we all are, it is overwhelming how much everyone loved Maisie.

“We cannot thank you enough.”
