The owners of a pub in Cornwall said they are “over the moon” after winning the gold in a prestigious tourism award.
The Peterville Inn has officially been named England's best Pub of the Year at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence.
Within just four years, the pub's rise to national recognition is down to its commitment to excellence and the support of its dedicated team. Tom and Lara Trubshaw, owners of the Peterville, have spoken of their delight after being named winners at the ceremony held in Liverpool on Thursday.
“So, something amazing and totally unexpected happened last night,” the couple said in a Facebook post. “We went to the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence and only went and won gold for Pub of the Year for the whole of England!
“We are unbelievably over the moon and it’s definitely going to take a while to sink in. To achieve this within just four years is truly mind-blowing and we are so proud of the entire Peterville family.”
Lara and Tom also expressed their gratitude to Steven ‘Gibbo’ Gibbs, the pub's general manager who has been with them since the very beginning.
This is the second time the St Agnes pub has been awarded the gold in a prestigious award. In November 2023, the pub was named the Pub of the Year in the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2023.
The Peterville Inn's success adds to a triumphant night for the South West tourism industry at the VisitEngland Awards.
Cornwall, in particular, shone brightly, with My Cottages in St Ives earning Silver in the Self-Catering category and The Pig at Harlyn Bay securing Bronze for Small Hotel of the Year.
Robin Barker of Services for Tourism, the organisers of the South West Tourism Excellence Awards, remarked:
"It was a delight to share in the success of an astounding group of tourism businesses.“Their commitment to excellence, sustainability, accessibility and customer service is a testament to their whole teams, whether managers, front of house staff, cleaners or volunteers."
