Did you know, you can save money on your Cornish getaway if you travel by train this summer?
Railholiday, the eco-accommodation enterprise, is offering a £50 discount for visitors who ditch the car commute for a train trip.
Locals can also bag extra discounts if they journey from within Cornwall or Devon.
Railholiday, founded by Dave and Lizzy Stroud in 1998, have given a new lease of life to abandoned rail carriages by converting them into self-catering holiday accommodations.
Currently, the Strouds accommodate guests in five refurbished rail cars in St Germans and Hayle and are reportedly in the process of restoring a 125-year-old carriage that was previously owned by Queen Victoria.
An emphasis on renewable transport is not the only eco-friendly commitment of the enterprise; clean energy sources power the accommodation, local suppliers stock the carriages, and guests have the option to carbon offset their stay.
This initiative comes as part of Great Big Green Week, a nationwide event that encourages UK residents to make more sustainable choices.
This year's focus is on 'swaps', a fitting theme for guests choosing rail transport over private vehicle use.
Mrs Stroud mentioned: "About 30 per cent of our guests come by train and 90% of those use the train while they're on holiday.
"If people come by train, they're much more likely to be involved with the village and spend their money locally."
The historic carriages have undergone modifications to achieve zero carbon emissions and operate throughout the year.
Guests opting to stay in one such carriage, the Travelling Post Office, can enjoy the benefits of insulation and an air source heat pump.
Renewable Energy schemes from Good Energy and Octopus Energy power these carriages.
Further conserving energy, all carriages use low energy bulbs, and appliances are selected based on their A or A+ energy efficiency rating.
For £25, Railholiday offers to plant a tree on the company's local land or support community orchards in St Germans, Moor Barton and Loveland, Penryn.
