A one-bedroom cliff-side cottage that appeared in BBC's Poldark at a stunning beach location has sold for £423,000, not much over the asking price .
There was strong interest as bids flew in for the one-bedroom chalet style property, named Porthscylla above Porthcurno Beach.
The single storey chalet style building has the potential to be transformed into a 'Grand-Designs style project'.
Porthscylla, overlooking Porthcurno Beach, Cornwall has been featured in the TV series Poldark.
It went on auction with a freehold guide price of £395,000 plus in Clive Emson Auctioneers’ latest sale ending on June 12 when 174 lots went under the hammer.
However the property itself may go ‘under the hammer’ as the auctioneer says there is potential for a “Grand Designs-style” project as the property has permission in principle for demolition and replacement.
Speaking before the auction Senior Auction Appraiser Katie Semmens said: “This is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire a chalet style bungalow in a truly stunning location overlooking the picturesque Porthcurno beach.
“With breathtaking views, it neighbours the famous Minack Theatre in an area which featured in the popular TV series Poldark.
“Porthscylla has been in the same family for a century and benefits from Permission in Principle for demolition and replacement giving potential for a Grand Designs-style project, subject to all necessary consents being obtainable.”
The property, nestled into cliffs near the famous open-air Minack Theatre, has been in the same family and 'thoroughly enjoyed for a century'.
It sits on about 0.78 hectares (1.94 acres) of predominantly cliffside land.
The quaint cottage contains an entrance/utility area, a W.C., a kitchen, shower room with a double basin, a double bedroom and a living/dining room.
Senior Auction Appraiser Katie Semmens said: “Bidders recognised the rare opportunity to acquire this chalet style bungalow in a truly stunning location overlooking picturesque Porthcurno beach.
“There was keen bidding which quickly exceeded its guide before the gavel fell on the final bid.
“The new owner has the option to follow the existing Permission in Principle for demolition and replacement or they may have another project in mind, subject to all necessary consents being obtainable.”
Porthcylla was auctioned jointly with Marshall’s Estate Agents of Penzance.
The property was sold with 0.8 hectares (1.9 acres) of mostly cliff land and permission in principle for demolition and replacement.
Clive Emson Auctioneers said: "There's not many places you can stay where you've got Porthcurno on your doorstep as a beach and Minack Theatre as your neighbour."
