Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in east Cornwall.

A 75-year-old man has since been arrested and is in police custody. 

Officers were called by the ambulance service to a report of a deceased woman at an isolated property near Merrymeet, Liskeard, at around 8.40am today (Saturday, June 15).

Officers attended and her next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "A 75-year-old man from the Liskeard area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.

"It is believed that the deceased and the suspect are known to each other.

"Officers remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing."
