A resident who pleaded guilty to waving an axe in a delivery driver’s face after he parked outside his home in Penryn has been sent to Crown Court for sentencing.
Connor Wolf Peter Nigel Christopher Soloman Akira Gwithian Muchmore, aged 29, of Tresooth Lane, Penryn admitted threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place when he appeared at Truro Magistrates’ Court today.
The prosecution told the court the incident happened on October 7 last year when delivery driver Thomas Ingram parked his vehicle outside Muchmore’s address to attempt a delivery.
Muchmore came out of his home holding an axe and started to threaten the driver Mr Ingram with it, the incident was caught on the driver’s dashcam.
The prosecution described Muchmore holding the axe in Mr Ingram’s face. Mr Ingram reversed out of the road with Muchmore pointing the axe at him.
The full charge read: “On 07/10/2023 at Penryn in the County of Cornwall had with you in a public place, namely Tresooth Lane, an offensive weapon, namely an axe, with which you unlawfully and intentionally threatened another person, namely Thomas Ingram, in such a way that a reasonable person who was exposed to the same threat would think that there was an immediate risk of physical harm to that reasonable person.”
The crown said the case was too serious to be heard by the magistrates’ court as the recommended starting point for sentence was 15 months, exceeding their six month sentencing powers.
Muchmore’s defence solicitor said he had no objection to the category.
Magistrates agreed and ordered he attend Crown Court for sentencing next month and a pre-sentence report be prepared.
It was requested, and granted, that the dashcam footage be made available at the sentencing.
Sending him to Truro Crown Court, magistrates told Muchmore that the offence was so serious that he could only be sentenced by the crown court.
