The Cornish Oven is giving back to the community to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

To mark the occasion, the Cornish Oven has launched a campaign entitled ‘Thank you Cornwall’ and is giving away £25,000 to five local charities nominated by members of the public on their social media channels.

People are being invited to take part in this campaign by nominating, tagging or sharing on their social media accounts a chosen charity or the charity that has impacted their lives in some way.

Giles Williams, the owner of the Cornish Oven said: “What better way to say thank you to our customers who have supported us over the last 25 years than giving something back.”

The campaign will close at the end of June. All nominations will be placed into five categories.

However, Giles and his wife Ingrid will then have the difficult job of going through all the nominations individually, to see how their money can best help a local charity.

Throughout July, the couple will announce one by one, the winning charity from each category, and then showcase how the £5,000 donation will impact that charity.

The Cornish Oven has certainly grown over the last few years. Recently they have opened pasty shops on Causewayhead, Penzance, and Hayle next to the Rugby Club and its first shop called ‘Dinky’ on the outskirts of Helston.

Truro will be the next town to benefit from a new shop. The Cornish Oven on Back Quay, Truro will be opening at the end of July, and the team are looking forward to meeting their next batch of ‘pasty lovers’.

The Cornish Oven have been making and baking pasties since 1999 using Giles Williams's mother’s recipe for homemade pasties.

Little did he realise 25 years ago how far that recipe would have brought him. The most popular pasty nowadays is ‘The Flaky!’ A flaky pastry steak pasty which has certainly matched the equally popular shortcrust steak in the opinion polls.
