A 20-year-old man is in police custody following a serious assault in Cornwall.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the assault which was reported on July 2 at the Asda petrol station in Launceston.

According to reports, two men were assaulted near the petrol station forecourt around 11.40pm on July 2.

Police originally said that both victims sustained facial injuries from punches, and one suffered a stab wound to the back. But it was later confirmed that one of the victims sustained a stab wound to the head and said that the injury was not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. 

A 20-year-old man from Launceston has been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He remains in police custody.

The police are now looking to locate a second suspect.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a report of assault in Launceston.

“Enquiries are ongoing to locate a suspect described as a white male with light brown or blond hair. He was believed to be wearing dark clothing and trainers.

“Anyone with information which may assist our investigation is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 1005 of 2 July 2024.”
