Cornwall’s turnout for yesterday’s General Election was above the national average in every constituency.
Turnout across the UK as a whole was 60% - the second lowest in a UK election since 1885, the BBC reports. Only 2001 was lower with 59%.
This compares with an overall turnout of 67.3% at the last election in 2019.
In Cornwall, all six constituencies saw a turnout that was higher than the national average – although still only averaging around the mid-60s mark.
Joint highest was shared by the Truro and Falmouth constituency and the St Ives constituency with West Cornwall, where turnout was 69% at each.
The lowest turnout was at St Austell and Newquay, which saw only 62% of the electorate vote – although still higher than the average nationally.
