Brian Pascoe Memorial Midsummer Road Run, Helston pictures

The event is held each summer to raise money for MNDA (the Motor Neurone Disease Association) in memory of Brian Pascoe.

Organised by Bob Eustis, it sees vintage and classic tractors joining at the Helston Community College bus park for a 5pm start, before heading off on a route through Lowertown, Sithney Green and Carleen.

It was then on to Godolphin and later Ashton.

They are expected to pass through Porthleven at around 6.30pm, where they always receive a warm reception.

The tractor run will finish at Helston’s Fairground car park, opposite Coronation Lake, where there will be a pasty for all involved.

After a couple of rain showers earlier in the day it is a largely sunny evening for the run.

There were plenty of waves for the camera as tractors passed our photographer waiting to take pictures in Lowertown.

From blue Fords to red Massey Fergusons, and even a Nuffield so old it no longer had paint, there was wide range of ages on display – both on the road and with the drivers steering them.

And while the majority of the vehicles were tractors, a vintage Thames truck branded with ‘Clinton’s Welding, Helston’ also joined the back of the line.

It was a family occasion for some, with one David Brown tractor pulling a trailer of passengers. 

With the England football team playing Switzerland tonight in the quarter finals of the Euros 2024, a number of vehicles flew the England flag.

Over the last couple of years the run has raised around £1,000 for the charity at each event.

Organisers have this year given special thanks to Cornish Oven, the National Trust, Helston Community College, Clear-Flow and Core Highways Traffic Management for their support of the event.
