The owners of a vintage clothes shop in Cornwall have announced the business will close its doors for good next month.

After a rollercoaster of a ride, including lockdowns, a recession, and an energy bill crisis, the popular Lady Eve Vintage in Helston will close after four years.

However, its owners say it is not any of these factors that have led to the decision to close.

Jan Williams and Bee Pellow have made the difficult decision to close the business due to Jan’s relocation out of Cornwall.

Lady Eve Vintage opened its doors at the top of Meneage Street in August 2020 and quickly became popular for its vintage boutique filled with dresses, scarves, belts and shoes from the 1920s to the 1980s – each item entirely individual.

Jan and Bee also sell homeware, including cushions and lamps, which are made by themselves using vintage materials.

In 2022, the wall outside the shop welcomed a large mural of a woman wearing a wide-brimmed formal hat mirroring the ones the ladies wear during the Midday Dance on Flora Day after Jan and Bee noticed obscene graffiti on the wall.

After posting a tongue-in-cheek shout for whoever was responsible, asking if it could be more like Banksy’s designs, a mural artist from Bude got in touch to say he’d be happy to design a picture for the wall.

However, Jan and Bee are now bidding farewell to their loyal customers, with Jan saying a poignant farewell to ‘lovely Helston’.

“We have gained some very supportive customers far and wide, and we have also made some positive friendships through that,” Jan told the Packet.

“A huge thank you to our regular customers, who have supported us and Helston.

“Helston is lovely, unique, and bless those independent shops that keep it going.”

The ground floor of the premises is now up for sale, with Jan hoping that someone is “brave enough” to take it on.

The shop will remain open until the end of August - exactly four years to the month from when they opened.

In the meantime there is currently a 40 per cent off sale on items.
