A Penryn athlete has achieved success representing Great Britain at the Europe Sprint Duathlon Championships.
Adam Blackmore completed the demanding course in Coimbra, Portugal.
It was made up of a 5km run, a 20km bike ride, and a 2.5 km run - all completed in one hour, two minutes and five seconds.
Among 360 competitors aged 45-49 who gathered from across Europe, the 44-year-old took the 16th spot and finished as the 5th British athlete.
The athlete, a former Penryn and Truro College student, now resides in Worcester despite his deep-rooted connection with Cornwall.
Mr Blackmore, the son of former Cornish powerlifting champion Margaret Blackmore and three-time World Masters champion rower Colin Blackmore, and brother to local footballer Marc Blackmore, has sportsmanship deeply embedded in his blood.
Before representing Great Britain at the European Championships, he secured his place by performing well at the Darley Moor Sprint Duathlon in May 2023.
Describing it as a lifelong dream to represent GB, Mr Blackmore said: "Competing in the city of Coimbra and racing alongside the Mondego River was incredible.
"I would like to thank Jamie and Tania Reed and the team at DJ in Cornwall for their kind sponsorship and support, I could not have made it to Coimbra without them.
"Representing Great Britain on this stage was possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity."
Jamie Reed, managing director at DJ in Cornwall, said: "It’s been an honour to support Adam to take part in these championships.
"I went to school with him and to see him performing on the European stage is inspiring."
