A 21-mile stretch of road in Cornwall is to be closed overnight for an entire month at the end of the summer - albeit in stages.
However, Cornwall Council has vowed to keep disruptions 'to a minimum'.
Planned routine maintenance on the A394 stretching from Treliever Roundabout, Penryn to the junction of the A30, Marazion will take place from September 2 to September 27, 2024, between 7pm and 6am, Monday to Friday.
The works that include SAMs (Safety and Management Solutions) and gully maintenance will see sections of the A394 closed to traffic. This will likely cause disruption and see journey times increase, with drivers warned to check and plan accordingly to avoid unnecessary upheaval
The council said that detailed information will be shared with town and parish councils and other key stakeholders ‘approximately two weeks before the work commences’.
The order states: “Notice is hereby given that Cornwall Council intends to make the order of the RTRA 1984 to temporarily prohibit the use by traffic of the undermentioned lengths of road in Marazion.
"This prohibition is necessary for SAMs and gully works and it is expected that the closure will be from 2nd September 2024 to 27th September 2024.”
It goes on to add: “The prohibition will be in force between the hours of 1900 and 0600, weekdays only.
“Roads affected - A394 between Treliever Roundabout, Penryn and the junction of the A30, Marazion for its entire length.
An alternative route will be signed on-site. Pedestrian and Vehicular access will be maintained to properties.”
Cornwall Council said that the works will be prioritised when traffic levels are low, to keep ‘disruption to a minimum.’
A council spokesperson said: “The A394 will not be closed entirely during this period.
“The closures will be in phases and kept as short as possible to undertake routine maintenance like gully cleaning and vegetation cutting.
"Works will be carried out at night between 7pm and 6am, Monday to Friday, prioritising times when traffic levels are low to keep disruption to a minimum.
“Detailed information will be shared with town and parish councils and other key stakeholders approximately two weeks before the work starts.”
