The National Maritime Museum  will host a range of events for families this summer, including a treasure hunt.

The programme of events at the Falmouth museum will include a brand new theatre show, a Treasure Map Trail and arts and crafts.

The line up includes 'Escape from Treasure Island', a high-octane theatre show performed by Cornwall-based production company Illyria.

The heroes of the show will race to solve clues, find the treasure and defeat the baddies, including the island's gorilla, phantom zombie, giant kraken and the island's resident crocodile.

The show will run four times a day between Monday, July 22 and Sunday, September 1.

In addition to the theatre performances, a Treasure Map Trail will challenge families to gather stamps concealed throughout the museum to discover the secret location of pirate loot.

All treasure hunters who manage to find all the stamps and complete their map will earn themselves a prize.

Visitors will also be able to take part in Make & Take crafting sessions during the holidays, inviting families to make pirate hats and flying parrot wrist puppets, or colour in treasure maps.

This summer's family-friendly events are influenced by the theme of the Museum's temporary exhibition, Pirates.

The display looks at the impact popular culture has had on the portrayal of pirates and how it is still reshaping through film, fashion and fiction.

It also digs up stories of real Caribbean pirates and explores what life on an actual pirate ship was like.

All of the activities are included in the museum's admission charge.
