The much-anticipated return of the Water Carnival in Helston has been postponed to Sunday due to a poor weather forceast tomorrow - just days after heatwave warnings for Cornwall.

Organisers of the Hellys: All Together Now event have moved the Water Carnival from Saturday to Sunday.

Guy Watson, one of the people behind the event, explained: "With the forecast for rain tomorrow, we've made the decision to postpone the Water Carnival until Sunday. It's a difficult call, but we feel the weather would make it an endurance test rather than an enjoyable afternoon."

With hopes of sunshine on Sunday, the Water Carnival will take place from 3pm on the Boating Lake, with the Grand Parade of Floats commencing at 4pm.

This will be the first time in hundreds of years that the carnival will take place. Originally launched in 1912 when Lower Green was flooded, the carnival was a way to encourage fun on the newly created Boating Lake.

This year's Water Carnival will feature a grand parade of custom-made floats. Onlookers will vote for their favourite float in the ‘Helstonians Choice’ award, with the winner leading the parade around the lake and claiming a £100 prize.

It will include entries from Helston's schools, as well as a number of community vessels.

People are also encouraged to go along in fancy dress for a chance to ride on one of the floats.

Despite the postponement of the Water Carnival, there are still activities happening on Saturday.

The South Kerrier Alliance and Pond Hoppers model boat group will be running a "make your own recycled bottle sailing boat" workshop from 1pm to 3pm indoors at the Old Cattle Market.

The Museum of Cornish Life's Cornish Summer Fair will also go ahead from 10am.

Helston Town Band will still host its annual event on Event's Square from 2pm, encouraging attendees to bring an umbrella.
