A retired police officer who later rejoined as a PCSO in the Redruth area has died.

Camborne, Pool and Redruth Police said it was “with deep sadness” that they announced the sudden passing of PCSO John Thorne.

Writing on their Facebook page, the team said: “John started his public service as a submariner and went on to become a dedicated police officer for 25 years, before retiring and re-joining the police force as a police community support officer.

“Throughout his service he exemplified the highest standards of dedication, compassion and integrity.

“His contributions to the community and the positive impact he had on countless lives will always be remembered.

“He will be sorely missed by his family and friends, all those who knew and served with him within his career and also with so many from the Redruth community.”

To honour his memory, a book of condolence has been placed in Redruth Library for those who wish to pay their respects.

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” added the police team.
