The organiser of a music festival has apologised after residents of Falmouth and beyond complained they were kept awake into the early hours of the morning by the noise.
Rufus Maurice from the Cornish Bank who put on The Summer Camp festival on the Trefusis Estate, Flushing over the weekend, said they’d make sure it didn’t happen again.
He said the music festival was a fundraising event aimed at transforming the Cornish Bank into a dynamic community space that will host various services during the day, such as Citizens Advice Bureau, charity for the homeless Shelter and a conversation club for refugees, as well as hosting fundraising events for local charities.
He said the festival featured bands from 16 different countries, showcasing the best of local vibrant music scene. It also supported local artisans, blacksmiths, craftspeople, food producers, and farmers.
While the festival ran without any complaints over the weekend, many people took to social media on Monday to complain about being kept awake until the early hours of the morning.
The complaints appear to stem from a 3am licence granted for DJs to play at the end of the event until the early hours.
As well as Falmouth, people also complained they could hear it in Flushing, Mylor, Penryn and even Budock Water.
Rufus told the Packet that had they known about the noise complaints they would have turned the music down immediately.
He said the good weather appeared to be to blame for the sound travelling and said they would ensure it didn’t happen again.
“The festival ran for three days without any incidents, thanks to our pre-arranged event management plan and cooperation with authorities,” he said.
“We obtained a music license until 3am, with no complaints in the past two years. We are grateful for the overwhelming turnout and positive feedback from attendees who enjoyed the event in a friendly and respectful manner.
“However, we have received complaints about noise levels between midnight and 3am on Sunday night. If we organize this event again, we will ensure that our lineup does not create noise disturbances in Falmouth after midnight.
“Despite the fantastic weather, the still nights allowed sound to carry easily, and we apologize to anyone who was disturbed by our fundraising efforts. We appreciate the feedback and will make necessary adjustments for future events.”
