The manager of the newly opened Burger King in Falmouth says it has “gone crazy” since it opened with twice the number of customers originally forecast in its first few days.

The new Burger King attached to the Esso petrol station on Dracaena Avenue opened this week and has been so busy that manager Manoj Kumaran says he needs more staff.

“It’s been very busy since we opened,” he said. “We had a prediction for the number of meals we would serve, and it’s double that now and we are actually struggling with the number of staff we have. We need people willing to do shifts.

“Everyone’s happy with what we are serving the only problem is sometimes we can’t manage because it is so crazy at the moment. But other than that everything’s fine.”

It opened at the same time that the McDonalds down the road was closed with a pest problem which was not good news for Ronald but was for the new Burger King.

Burger King has been absent from Falmouth for the past 14 years with the last outlet on Market Strand facing Prince of Wales Pier and closing in February 2010.

The new outlet has been built attached to Esso Londis petrol station at 60 Dracaena Avenue with access from within the Burger King outlet itself.

It was originally intended to install a Greggs at the site but the company pulled out after it proved difficult to open Greggs in Cornwall.

Instead it was decided to put in a Burger King as they found this would be very popular.

The site was scouted by the development team of the Motor Fuel Group which puts franchises in petrol and service stations all over the country.

It is not be a proper sit down restaurant although it does have one “family” table and three or four “high chairs” for customers who want to sit in.

The takeaway is open from 10am until 11pm.
