A 68-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured in a collision.

Police were called to Penfound Gardens in Bude on Saturday (August 3) following reports of a collision between a motorhome, a Ford Fiesta which collided with a child pedestrian.

The eight-year-old was flown to Bristol Children's Hospital having sustained serious injuries.

A 68-year-old woman from Bude was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and released for investigation.

The road was closed allow police to carry out an investigation. Police are calling for witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident to contact them .

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a serious road traffic collision in Bude.

"Officers were called at around 5.15pm on Saturday 3 August to Penfound Gardens following reports of a collision involving a motorhome, a Ford Fiesta and a child pedestrian.

"As a result of a collision, an eight-year-old boy sustained serious injuries and was flown to Bristol Children’s Hospital.

"A 68-year-old woman from Launceston was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and has been released under investigation.

"The road was closed while an investigation was carried out at the scene.

"Officers from the Roads Policing Team would like to thank the public for their patience whilst the road was closed."
