Premier Inn says it has identified a "considerable demand" for additional budget hotel accommodation at one of its hotels in Cornwall.
As a result it has submitted a planning application to Cornwall Council in a bid to extend its accommodation at Forth Coth, Carnon Downs.
Documents accompaning the application state: "Premier Inn has identified a considerable demand for additional budget hotel accommodation in this location.
"It is also acting to reconfigure the restaurant proposition to ensure it best fits the needs of customers in select locations."
It says the proposals would meet Premier Inn’s operational requirements at the location and go some way in helping to address the room demand.
The proposal is for a two-storey extension to the existing hotel, attached to the eastern end of via a corridor link at each floor.
The extension would provide 13 bedrooms, plant room and staircase at ground floor level and 13 bedrooms, linen store and staircase on the first floor.
It would also incorporate a new external escape stair and plant compound.
The plans go on to explain: "On the ground floor, six bedrooms and a linen store would be converted into a new breakfast room.
"To the rear of the new breakfast room, three standard bedrooms would be converted into two universal access rooms.
"Finally, one standard bedroom and linen store would be converted into one universal
access bedrooms and smaller linen store."
The proposals, as a whole, would result in a total of 105 bedrooms, a net increase of 19 rooms.
The extension would be attached to the eastern end of the hotel on an existing area of car park. Replacement car park spaces would then be located on a small portion of the site’s existing soft landscaping.
It says that reconfiguring the existing landscaping and car park would make it possible to retain a total of 130 car parking spaces to serve the hotel and restaurant. This would include an additional disabled bay.
