Police are appealing for residents to check their doorbell and CCTV footage after a burglary at a Helston house with the female occupant home alone.
The victim of the burglary at a house on Redruth Road, Vicky Paget said that two men broke in in the early hours of Wednesday morning (August 7) at around 2am.
She said two men, one on a bike and one walking were seen coming from Fraser's Fish and Chip Shop along Redruth Road, crossed over the road and allegedly broke into her house.
She said her sensors picked up someone walking through her kitchen at 2.10am before taking both their car keys and taking one car as the other was elsewhere.
In a post on Facebook she said what had happened was “horrible”. “Cars can be replaced,” she said “but I was home alone and knowing they’ve been in my house whilst I slept is horrible! Also I am now too scared to bring the other car home as they have the key.”
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said the stolen car had now been recovered after being abandoned near Illogan.
“Offenders broke into the property in Redruth Road in the early hours of Wednesday, August 7,” they said.
“Once inside they took the keys to two cars before stealing one of them, a grey BMW.
“The car has been located this morning, August 8, abandoned on Wills Row, Park Bottom, near Illogan.
“Police are appealing for information and asking residents in both areas to check their personal CCTV or doorbell cameras for any footage which may assist with enquiries.
“Officers are also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the areas at the time of the offence.”
Anyone who can assist police with their investigation is asked to report information online or telephone 101, quoting crime number 50240197693.
