There has been a last minute change to the line-up for this Wednesday’s Falmouth Week Air Show after one of the teams had to pull out.

The display is always one of the most eagerly anticipated weeks of the event and this year spectators will get ‘three for one’.

Scheduled for Wednesday, August 14 the display will take place over Falmouth Seafront, Cliff Road, Pendennis Point and Gyllyngvase Beach.

Free to watch, it will feature the aerobatic skills of the Jet Pitts and Aerosuperbatic Wingwalkers.

It was also previously expected to include the Titans display team, but at the end of this week it was revealed they could no longer attend due to mechanical issues.

Instead, a Slingsby Firefly will be making an appearance.

In an update on Friday, town centre manger Richard Gates said: “The Titans have had to pull out due to mechanical issues and are unable to display across the UK for the rest of the season.

“We have literally just found this out in the last week, so rallied round to get another plane in their place.

“It will be a Slingsby Firefly, and thanks to Tom the pilot for stepping in at the 11th hour.”

In the past the air display slot has been filled by the famous and ever-popular Red Arrows, but Falmouth Town Team had previously announced: “Training commitments this season meant that The Red Arrows were not available and so the Team proactively looked at other aerial display options.”

The airs how on the seafront will start at 6.15pm, with a five minute gap between displays, and is expected to finish at approximately 7pm.

Organisers have warned to expect traffic delays throughout Falmouth Week and in particularly after the air display, so instead of joining the queues people are encouraged to head into town to enjoy all that Falmouth has to offer.

There will be an exclusion zone on the water during the Air Display. No boats or marine craft of any kind may enter the display area during the air display, for the safety of all involved.

This will be enforced by Falmouth Harbour, the RNLI and Port of Falmouth Sailing Association.

The exclusion zone is defined as the shaded area on the below chart.

The inner area previously used for small craft has been designated for paddle craft and is a no anchoring zone.

No vessels shall enter or be within the exclusion zone between 5.45pm and 7.15pm.

All vessels must stay south of the exclusion zone and any vessel breaching this exclusion zone during these times will cause the air display to be cancelled.

Official vessels will be flying a blue “Falmouth Harbour” flag.

It is noted in the exclusion zone details that vessels can be ordered by special direction to vacate this exclusion zone, by any Harbour Master or officer acting as Harbour Master at that time.
