Police have issued an updated statement over last night’s crowd incident at Boardmasters – and moved to shut down false rumours that anyone died.
Devon and Cornwall Police said that: “Contrary to speculation, we can confirm that there have been no deaths as a result of this incident.”
Last night (Friday) The Point Stage had to be closed during DJ Sammy Virji's set due to a crowd collapse – initially described as a crowd “surge” but revised by police today (Saturday).
A "small number" of people were said to be injured, who were treated on-site or taken to hospital to be checked over.

This lunchtime Devon and Cornwall Police issued an updated statement, in light of false claims and speculation on social media that someone had died at the event.
A spokesperson said: “We were notified following a crowd collapse at Boardmasters music festival in Newquay on Friday 9 August which left a small number of attendees injured.
“The injured parties were treated on-site by medical staff and a small number were taken to hospital to be checked over for minor injuries.
“Contrary to speculation, we can confirm that there have been no deaths as a result of this incident.
“This is an isolated incident and the festival continues.”

As of 1.45pm on Saturday there have been no further statements from Boardmasters.
Last night a festival spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Sammy Virji’s set was cancelled and that The Point stage was closed to allow onsite teams to respond to an incident in the audience.
“No serious injuries have been reported and the pit and medical teams immediately assisted those involved. Safety is our number one priority and we thank Sammy and our audience for their understanding.
“All other stages have been unaffected and performances continue as planned.”
The festival continues today (Saturday) with Sam Fender headlining. Other big names include Becky Hill, Declan McKenna, Katy B and Professor Green.
The music concludes tomorrow with headliner Stormzy, with The Streets, Maisie Peters, Cat Burns and Kate Nash also among the line-up.
