A takeaway food shop in Helston has been taken over by a new owner – and he wants people to know “it’s changed.”

Islam Gul is now the owner of the former Salt and Vinegar fish and chip shop in Meneage Street, which over the past year had also branched into kebabs.

He has changed the name to Pizza Plus and hopes it will be a fresh start for the shop, which has been at the centre of complaints on social media in recent months.

Islam said he hoped to change all that and to use all his experience of owning other businesses in the south east to build a good reputation for the shop.

He told the Packet: “People need to know it’s changed. It’s completely new – a new person, new menu, a new company.

“I have been doing this job for 20 years and have other shops in Farnham, Horsham, Marlborough and Basingstoke – different menus, but the same kind of set-up.”

Although the shop will continue to serve similar options as before, but under a menu, Islam particularly hopes to develop the pizza side of the business – as reflected in the new name.

The Pizza Plus menu boasts of the “biggest pizza in town”, coming in at a hefty 15 inches, with nine inch and 12 inch options also available – and all come under a two-for-one offer.

Also served still are fish and chips, pies, kebabs and burgers.

One of the main things Islam wants people to know is that the Salt and Vinegar website is no longer connected to the Helston shop, and any orders placed through it will not be received by his team.

Instead, anyone wanted to order from Pizza Plus should visit https://pizzaplus.fastfood-os.io

Islam said the new signage outside should be going up on Tuesday and he is bringing in all-new kitchen equipment next week also.

He has already painted inside and outside the shop, which now has a bright blue exterior.

Pizza Plus is open seven days a week from 3pm, closing at 11pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, but open until 3.30am Thursday to Saturday.
