Boardmasters has said that seven people have been discharged from hospital after last night’s crowd collapse.

The music festival in Newquay issued an updated statement on its X social media page just after 4.40pm today (Saturday).

It is after DJ Sammy Virji’s set on The Point stage on Friday evening had to be cancelled due to an incident now being described as a “crowd collapse.”

Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed last night and again today that injured people were treated on-site by medical staff and “a small number” were taken to hospital to be checked over for what they described as “minor injuries.”

Now Boardmasters has issued an update to say: “Following a crowd collapse at The Point last night seven attendees were transferred to hospital nearby for precautionary examination after presenting to our medical team.

“They have been treated for minor injuries and have all since been discharged.

“We have undertaken a multi-agency review and The Point stage has reopened this afternoon.

“Our welfare teams are available 24 hours a day for any festival-goers who would like a chat or support.

“If you’re a parent and have any concerns you can contact us via boardmasters.com/contact-us”

Earlier Devon and Cornwall Police also issued an update statement, at lunchtime, to say: “We were notified following a crowd collapse at Boardmasters music festival in Newquay on Friday 9 August which left a small number of attendees injured.

“The injured parties were treated on-site by medical staff and a small number were taken to hospital to be checked over for minor injuries.

“Contrary to speculation, we can confirm that there have been no deaths as a result of this incident.

“This is an isolated incident and the festival continues.”
