Emergency repairs are being carried out on the A30 at Newquay after a fire involving a car pulling a trailer this morning (August 14).

Firefighters were called to the A30 at Highgate Hill near Indian Queens at 5.51am this morning to reports of a car and a trailer on fire.

Firefighters from St Dennis & Newquay attended and two firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to put out the fire.

Devon and Cornwall police were also in attendance.

 

A spokesperson from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Centre said this morning: ”Appliances from St Dennis & Newquay are in attendance at vehicle and trailer on fire on the A30 near Highgate Hill. Crews are using breathing apparatus and hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.”

The A30 Eastbound was closed during that time while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The westbound carriageway reopened at around 7.15am with one lane in the eastbound direction re-opened at around 9.10am but the other lane remains closed.

Inrix reported in its latest update: “One lane was closed due to emergency carriageway repairs on A30 Eastbound from A39 (Indian Queens) to the B3274 with traffic coping well following a vehicle fire this morning, emergency carriageway repairs are now underway.”
