Head & Head Veterinary Practice in Helston has shared an update regarding its future.

In a statement released to the Packet and shared on social media, the practice has addressed recent rumours that it is to close.

Although the practice has acknowledged financial difficulties over the past two years, the team have emphasised its dedication to finding solutions to ensure the practice's long-term viability.

"We are working tirelessly with our dedicated team to explore all avenues to secure the future of Head & Head Veterinary Practice," the statement reads. "The care of our patients remains our top priority, and both routine consultations and emergency care will continue as usual."

The statement also acknowledged the difficult decision to place 27 roles at risk of redundancy during a consultation period aimed at finding solutions for sustainable operations. The practice expressed its deep appreciation for its dedicated staff and commitment to supporting them throughout this process.

The news of the practice's struggles has seen an outpouring of support from locals, with many clients reaching out to express their gratitude for the care they've received and the importance of preserving the legacy of late partner Johnny Alston, who passed away last year.

On its website, Head & Head say that the practice was founded in the late 1870s by Charles Hoadley, the first qualified vet to work in Cornwall, and he was later joined by his son-in-law Alfred Head, and his brother Stanley Head.

However, when Charles retired, the brothers decided to name the practice after themselves.

The practice has continued to expand and thrive over the years, under a number of talented veterinary professionals such as another member of the Head family, John Head, who was one of the first vets in Cornwall to introduce regular preventative herd health visits for farm clients.
