Tears of joy and faces of pure relief filled Helston Community College’s Post 16 site this morning, as students received their A Level results.
The sixth form students have celebrated some outstanding exam results today (Thursday), with the entire year group excelling with a near-perfect 100 per cent pass rate.
Over half of the students achieved one or more of the top grades (A/A* or equivalent), and the vast majority of students applying to university have secured their first-choice place.
Year 12 construction students also performed exceptionally well, passing the BTEC Level 2 Construction Diploma after just one year of study.
However, one student who achieved a clean sweep of A*s in her A Levels (physics, mathematics, further mathematics and biology) will now live her dream of studying Physics at Oxford University.
Emmeline Pollard, who has been described as ‘exceptionally gifted’ by her physics and maths teachers, has shown a huge passion for the subjects she has studied.
While Emmeline has her sights set on Oxford, other students are embarking on exciting journeys of their own.
Mia Penberthy is headed to the University of Exeter to study Biology and Medical Chemistry, Cavan Hill will be studying Medical Engineering at the University of Bath, Amelia Lane is off to Falmouth University to study Game Art, and Charlotte Bibby will be pursuing her passion for Wildlife Conservation at Bath Spa University.
Alex Lingard, Headteacher at Helston Community College, has praised the year group for their dedication. He said: “We are very proud of our students’ achievements – they have worked exceptionally hard and deserve their success. It has been another year of great results.
“May I take this opportunity to thank each of them for their dedication and thank all the staff who have supported them so well – a wonderful team effort.”
Dr Kieran Ryan, Head of Sixth Form, commented, “The hard work of students has paid off this year, with outstanding performances in a whole range of subjects ranging from A level Mathematics to BTEC Art.
“I am very grateful for the effort and dedication of staff, who have challenged, inspired and supported students throughout their time with us.”
