An update from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service says that the incident has been scaled back to appliances and the water carrier continuing to turnover and damp down.

The A394 Helston to Falmouth Road has now reopened. 


People are being told to ‘stay away’ this evening (Friday) as firefighters from across Cornwall tackle a large fire outside of Helston.

Firefighters are battling a large blaze involving two farm buildings in Trewennack near Helston this evening.

Crews from Helston, Falmouth, Tolvaddon, and St Keverne, along with water carriers from Helston and Wadebridge, are at the scene.

The buildings, each measuring 40 meters by 20 meters, are engulfed in flames. Due to the severity of the fire, additional resources have been requested.

A road closure is in place while firefighters work to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading. Members of the public are urged to stay away from the area

A statement on the Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service website said: “Fire crews from Helston, Falmouth, and Tolvaddon Community Fire Stations are in attendance at a fire involving two farm buildings measuring approximately 40 metres by 20 metres each.”

“The fire crews, some wearing breathing apparatus, are fighting the fire to stop it spreading to other buildings.

“Further assistance has been requested and a fire crew from St Keverne, who were standing by at Helston, and another fire crew from Falmouth have been mobilised.

“In total six pump appliances from Helston, Mullion, St Keverne, Falmouth, and Tolvaddon, two water carriers from Helston and Wadebridge, a breathing apparatus support unit from Falmouth, and an incident command unit from St Just and three supervisory officers and a specialist hazardous materials & environmental protection officer are in attendance are responding.

“Members of the public are asked to avoid the area, to allow the fire crews to carry out their work.”

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police are also at the scene.

A force spokesperson said: “Officers are assisting the fire service with road closures at the scene of a large fire in a barn at Trewannack, near Helston, and request that members of the public close their doors and windows and stay away from the area.”
