A Falmouth pub has soared to new heights after being named CAMRA Kernow’s Pub of the Season for summer.
The Moth and Moon located on Killigrew Street was selected from a field of six nominees and is the second pub to go into the final for the prestigious title of Cornwall CAMRA Pub of the Year 2025.
The nominated pubs were judged on a variety of qualities including:
- Quality of real ale/cider
- Style/décor/furnishings/cleanliness
- Service/welcome/offering
- Community focus and atmosphere
- Alignment with CAMRA principles
The Moth and Moon was declared the winner due to its ever-changing range of Cornish real ales, which are always kept in great condition.
As well as this, the pub was recognised for its very friendly and appeal to a broad range of drinkers of all ages.
Even more pertinent for a winning Pub of the Season (Summer) is that it claims to have the best sunny beer garden in Falmouth.
Matt Reay, owner and landlord since January 2020, spoke of his surprise and delight at receiving the award, promising to serve an even greater variety of ales if only his cellar could accommodate it.
He also pointed out another quirk of his establishment, stating: "We must have the most pregnant bar staff in Cornwall!"
Before taking over The Moth and Moon Matt managed the 'Front in Falmouth for 15 years.
The Front was named CAMRA Kernow Pub of the Year in 2018 under his leadership, among its many award wins.
In a Facebook post shared on Tuesday (August 20) The Moth and Moon thanked its ‘loyal and wonderful’ customers for their continued support.
The post reads: “We're incredibly surprised and chuffed to have been voted CAMRA Kernow Pub of the Season - Summer '24. Thank you so much.
“A massive shout out to our amazing and hard-working Moth Team and our loyal and wonderful customers who make this beautiful pub everything that it is. Cheers to you all.”
