Drivers are being warned of overnight closures on a section of the A30 in Cornwall this week.

There will be two in place, and Cornwall Council has now warned where to avoid.

The closures will be affecting the eastbound carriageway on the new section of dual carriageway opened recent.

The A30 eastbound will be closed overnight today (Wednesday, August 21) and Thursday (August 22), between Chiverton Junction and Carland Cross.

This is so that bridge inspections can be carried out.

The closures will be in place from 8pm until 6am both nights.

Traffic will be diverted via the A3075 and B3285/B3288 during the closures.

There will also be a single lane closure on the westbound side near Tolgroggan Bridge, although no diversions will be needed and the road will still be passable.

The dualling of the Chiverton to Carland Cross section of the A30 finally reopened to traffic on Monday, June 24 – three months later than originally planned, due to a number of storms and bad weather delaying the work.

The programme of work had to adapt to the effects of the pandemic and weather challenges – including 14 Met Office classified storms between January 2021 and August 2023.

At the time of the opening, National Highways said that while it was opening all junctions and lanes of the new dual carriageway, it warned that there was still work to do on local roads and structures to close down the site and fully complete the project.

The cost of developing the scheme was partly funded by an £8 million contribution from the European Regional Development Fund, with an additional £12 million for the construction phase. The remainder of the cost of developing and delivering the scheme has been funded by central Government.
