Mawnan is asking local residents to help transform the future of its village playing field.

Next month people will have the opportunity to have their say on the future of Mawnan Junior Playing Field, helping turn the "neglected" playground into a well-equipped green space the whole community can enjoy.

The Design Mawnan Park and Village Fete event takes place from 12 noon to 5pm on Tuesday, September 3 at Mawnan Junior Playing Field and Bowling Club and aims to gather ideas on how the community would like to use the park.

Alongside the community consultation, led by playground designers Earth Wrights, a village fete will host a range of activities, from a fancy dress parade, to face painting, crafts and food stalls.

The free to enter event will help to raise funds for future playground equipment.

Shiona Biggin, a local parent and parish councillor who has coordinated the event, said: “We’re asking everyone – not just from Mawnan but from nearby villages and towns - to come along to the event and contribute ideas, but also to have a bit of fun with family and friends.

“We're excited to see the community’s vision and explore the potential of this space as a place where people can connect with each other and nature.”

The event is being made possible thanks to funding from Cornwall Council’s Community Capacity Fund, which is part of the Good Growth Programme delivering the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Shiona added: "As well as the funding from Cornwall Council’s Community Capacity Fund, we’re also grateful to Riverside Support Services Ltd and Kimberley’s Independent Estate Agents for sponsoring the fancy dress parade, and numerous local businesses for generously donating raffle prizes.”
