Bank Holiday Monday sees the return of Porthleven’s popular annual torchlight procession tonight - this year with a slightly altered route.
The parade traditionally symbolises the end of the summer season and sees hundreds of people holiding lit torches parade through the port as dusk falls.
For 2024 the route has had to be altered slightly, due to the manufacturer shortening the burning time of the flame torches.
Determined to go ahead despite this, and to be visible to as much of the village as possible, the procession will this year start from The Moors, where the torches can be purchased and lit by the volunteer marshalls.
Porthleven Town Band will lead the procession, setting off around 8pm this evening, towards the Harbour Head.
The procession will then move along Fore Street, turn into Thomas Street and travel the length of Peverell Terrace to take in the sights on the glimmering harbour and out to sea.
At the end of Peverell Terrace, the procession will turn down towards the beach and head around the iconic clock tower, to return to the Harbour Head, where the band will play out a final set.
As the sun sets, the incredible sight of flaming torches can be seen from many vantage points and is a wonderful memory to see out summer.
