The chair of Mylor Parish Council said he was “gutted” after a speed monitor and traffic sign was damaged overnight.

John Symons has expressed his disappointment this morning (Monday), following the suspected vandalism on the speed monitor on Waterings Road. He said: “I feel quite gutted about it. It’s just mindless.”

The speed monitor near the playing fields on Waterings Road, Mylor, was reportedly pulled off its bracket, causing it to break.

While Mr Symons understands the frustration that might have led to removing speed cameras in Longdowns, Perranarworthal, and Trewennack where they are catching speeding drivers, he said he sees no justification for the damage on Waterings Road.

The speed monitor, he explained, was simply a tool to count the number of cars passing by, not to enforce speed limits.

“It’s just for information,” he said.

However, the damage to the speed monitor wasn’t the only issue in Mylor.

At Lemon Hill, a traffic sign indicating priority for oncoming traffic was turned around, facing the wrong way.

“I just cannot understand what their means are, there’s no idea behind this,” said My Symons.

In a post shared on Facebook, Mr Symons said: "Mr Symons said: "Sometime over night some mindless person decided to pull the speed monitor by the playing field in Waterings Road off its bracket, as soon as a replacement bracket arrives the monitor will be put back up."

Due to the Bank Holiday Monday, Mr Symons told the Packet that the police will be informed about the incidents on Tuesday and hopes that residents nearby the area can check their Ring Door bells for any footage.
