The Friends of St Martin (FOSM) have celebrated a successful night of cowboy hats, and stomping boots at its annual barn dance.
The event, held at a barn in Trewince was very well attended by the community and visitors, with ages ranging from babies to toddlers to senior citizens – with everyone appearing to have a good time.
Kicking off the festivities were young children in attendance who got the dancing started before the length of the barn was taken up with the remaining participants, some of whom were ‘old hands’ at barn dancing, while others were more free range in style
By the final dance ‘Strip the Willow’ dancers did become slightly muddled, but somehow everyone ended up where they should be resulting in a sense of achievement and exhilaration.
The FOSM has expressed its gratitude to those who helped to make the event a success.
A spokesperson said: “FOSM would like to thank the following for making the event possible.
“Firstly, and most importantly, Fran Alston and family for the use of the venue, especially following the sad and unexpected death of Johnny Alston last November.
“Also, a big thank you to The Cornish Tinners Ceilidh Band for providing the lively music and giving instruction on how to do the various dances, the food provided by Kerra’s Catering and Helford Hog Roasts, and the drinks from the Prince of Wales Inn’s horse box, along with Gwella Dairy’s ice creams, each gratefully appreciated”
Thanks, were also given to Andrew and Julie Bray who supplied the straw bales for seating, and the volunteers who worked efficiently to organise the event.
“Finally huge thanks to everyone who supported the event and ensured that the evening was a very happy one with a wealth of smiling faces and peals of laughter – you made it a very special and memorable evening,” the spokesperson added.
