The Cornish Oven has made a generous donation of £5,000 to Cornwall Hospice Care.

It will help purchase a valuable shower bed for St Julia's Hospice in Hayle.

The shower bed will provide comfort for patients during their washes.

The donation will also fund more than 100 hours of nursing care.

The Cornish Oven's donation marks the bakery's 25th anniversary.

Anna Heacock, ward sister at St Julia's, said: "It's extra items like this that make a huge difference to our patients.

"A simple shower can mean a lot to someone, we all know how good it feels to have a wash, and now we can offer this to many more patients.

"We're very grateful to The Cornish Oven for this delicious delivery and for bringing us all a pasty when they presented us with the money."

The Cornish Oven team visited St Julia's Hospice with their mascot 'Percy Pasty' to present the donation.

Giles Williams, owner of The Cornish Oven, said: "When it came to celebrating our 25th anniversary, I wanted to be able to say thank you to Cornwall, hence the campaign.

"We deliberated over all the nominations one by one, but St Julia's Hospice in Hayle has touched so many people's lives, it felt right that they were chosen to receive one of the £5,000 donations."

Erica Vitai, philanthropy manager at Cornwall Hospice Care, said: "We're so grateful to The Cornish Oven for their support; the shower bed will make a huge difference to the patients at St Julia's and their donation will also fund over 100 hours of nursing care. Thank you!"
