A row in a fish and chip shop in Cornwall has resulted in a 49-year-old woman appearing before magistrates this week.

Sonia Pellow, aged 49, of Truthwall, Crowlas stood before Truro Magistrates' Court on Thursday (August 29).

The incident happened on June 22, 2024, at the Salt and Vinegar Takeaway on Trelowarren Street in Camborne.

The prosecutor told the court that Pellow entered the takeaway and accused a woman of being intimate with her partner.

“Pellow then picked up pickle jars belonging to the takeaway and threw them at the other woman,” the prosecutor said.

While no damage to the shop was reported, nor any injuries, the incident resulted in damage to the pickle jars, estimated at being £20 worth.

Pellow pleaded guilty to one count of criminal damage, and one count of common assault.

The case has been adjourned until September 23, for sentencing.

Pellow faces a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine for the common assault charge, and a maximum penalty of three months imprisonment and/or a level 4 fine for the criminal damage charge, although sentences are usually much lower than this.

  • Pellow also pleaded not guilty at the same hearing to a charge of assault by beating, alleged to have involved a second person in the shop. The magistrates adjourned the hearing to the same date of September 23, for the Crown Prosecution Service to consider its position.
