The former Penryn Methodist Church will host a one-off recording event to mark the beginning of the building's transition from a place of worship to an art space.

Re:Sounding will be an evening of music and song, celebrating the unique acoustics of the church.

Mabe Ladies Choir will perform at this special event, which forms part of the Church Records project by Crow Architecture and Small Acts.

The church has been a place of worship for 130 years, and the sounds of organ recitals, spoken word, and choir performances will be recorded live by sound recordist and acoustician Robin Tyndale-Biscoe.

These recordings will contribute to a creative archive of the building, including mapping its auditory plan.

Mabe Ladies Choir, formed in 1931, has a long-standing relationship with Penryn Methodist Church, having rehearsed in the attached school room for over 50 years and regularly performing in the chapel.

The choir is led by musical director Liz Chivers and accompanied by Rico Gerber.

Art Centre Penryn has commissioned Crow Architecture and artists Small Acts (Katie Etheridge and Simon Persighetti) to create a contemporary archive of the Penryn Methodist Church through the Church Records project.

This project aims to preserve the building’s history, celebrate its local importance, and create a historical record for future researchers, historians, and the wider community.

It is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Megan Beck, Art Centre Penryn director, said: "We are very excited about welcoming people into the former church to gather together and once again experience song, spoken word and music there."

The event will take place on September 7, with doors opening at 7pm, running from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

Entry is free, but a donation is suggested.

Booking is recommended to avoid disappointment.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Tickets will also be available on the door.

All are welcome.
