Head and Head Veterinary Practice in Helston has shared an update, following recent fears it would close due to financial challenges.

The Packet reported last month that the practice – which is almost 150 years old, having been founded in the late 1870s – was under threat after its parent company, Vet Partners notified staff of a two-month consultation period.

However, in an update shared with clients this morning (Wednesday), Head and Head have reassured them that at least some services will continue.

“As you know, we have been in consultation with team members about the future of the practice, and we are pleased to inform you that small animal service will continue at Head and Head Vets,” the update said.

“We remain in consultation with the team and will update you on the whole practice once the consultation period is complete in a couple of weeks’ time.”

Parent company Vet Partners also shared more information with the Packet about the update.

It said: “During consultation with our team members, Head and Head Veterinary Practice have been looking at ways to secure the long-term future of the practice, which has been struggling financially for two years, and has been impacted by an ongoing national shortage of vets.

“We can confirm that the small animal service at the practice will continue.”

While the practice has successfully secured the continuation of small animal services, the future of the farm and equine services remains uncertain.

"Discussions are ongoing with the practice team to look at the farm and equine service, and no decision has yet been made over future provision," said Vet Partners.

The practice acknowledges that there may be some minor changes to opening hours in the coming weeks. Clients will be kept informed of any changes through the practice's social media pages.

Head & Head has expressed gratitude for the support received from the community. "We would like to thank you for your patience during this period and appreciate all the support that has been shown to the practice by the local community," they said.
