A payment system developed in Cornwall will offer a new way of paying for parking online across seven of Falmouth’s car parks.

BUZZPAY has been developed by FindParkPay, based at Falmouth University’s Launchpad on the Penryn Campus.

BUZZPAY separates itself from the rest of the market by offering a no-download, no-account-required system that allows users to pay for parking in just four simple steps.

It is designed to be accessible to everyone, providing a quick and hassle-free way to manage parking payments.

How does BUZZPAY work?

  • Visit www.buzzpay.co.uk to access the site
  • Select the car park and enter your vehicle registration number
  • Select a fee based on duration of stay and add your email address
  • Pay via credit card, Google Pay or Apple Pay

A 5p admin fee is taken with each transaction.

The rollout has been made possible through support from Cornwall Council, and the system is integrated into the council’s payment records.

Tim Macknelly, co-founder of FindParkPay, said: "We are incredibly grateful for the strong support we've received from Cornwall Council.

“Their commitment to supporting a local, Cornish-owned business has been instrumental in our ability to bring BUZZPAY to market.

“This partnership not only helps us grow but also allows us to showcase an easy-to-use system that truly benefits the local community."

He said that with car park ticket machines increasingly becoming cashless, the idea behind the new payment system was to make it as easy as possible for people who didn’t want to download an app, create an account or have a lot of personal data stored by external companies.

It runs alongside paying via existing apps and at the machine directly by card (or cash where available).

"The money that the company makes is staying in the local economy,” added Tim. “If we grow we can employ people and they will be local as well.”

FindParkPay's journey began at Falmouth University as part of the Launchpad programme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

This provided the time and resources necessary for thorough research and development, ultimately leading to the creation of a market-ready product and spinout company.

With BUZZPAY now available in Falmouth, FindParkPay aims to offer Cornwall Council car park users more payment options, without the need to download an app or sign up for an account.

The success of this rollout will be measured by how many users adopt the payment system.

Looking ahead, FindParkPay is hoping to expand BUZZPAY to more towns across Cornwall and eventually throughout the UK. The next planned rollout is in Penzance.

The company said it was dedicated to “continuously enhancing the platform”, to ensure clients received a solution tailored to their needs.
