This weekend’s Martin Jennings Memorial Motorcycle Run has been postponed due to bad weather being forecast.

Thousands of bikers were expected to take part in the 37th annual motorcycle run this Sunday, September 8 to raise money for charity.

However organiser David Saunby issued a statement this morning saying that with “deep regret” this Sunday’s event had been postponed.

He told the Packet: "It is with deep regret that because of the wet weather forecast for Sunday, and in the interests of safety, I have no option but to postpone the run for one week, airing on the side of caution and also that the safely of all on the run is paramount in making my decision."

The run will now take place on Sunday, September 15 (weather permitting).

The event starts from 8:30am at the Tregurra Park and Ride Car Park Truro, in readiness for the countywide ride around Cornwall in memory of Martin Jennings of Beacon, Camborne who sadly lost his life competing in the Isle of Man Manx GP in 1987.

The run is due to leave Tregurra at 11am, so there will be delays of about 15 minutes on the St Austell side of the car park, as the bikers leave on-mass heading in the Tresillian direction, which the organisers apologise for any inconvenience caused to other road users.

The morning route is kept secret for safety reasons and can be controlled in keeping it all together.

After the lunch stop at Cornwall Services, the huge convoy of motorcycles will make its way down the A30 to Camborne West, where it will then go through Camborne, and then up to Beacon, Martins home village, arriving at 3pm, where a minute’s silence will be held in the village square, for Martin Jennings and all other bikers that have lost their lives on the roads of Cornwall and beyond.

The run will then continue on to the finish at the Falmouth Recreation Ground arriving at 4.15pm, via Troon, Helston, Rame, Londowns, Treliever, Penryn By-pass, Ponsharden, Greenbank, Main Street, Bar Road, Castle Drive, Sea front, Pennance Road, and Western Terrace.

The best viewing points will be from the bridges on the A30 between 2.15 and 2.50, but spectators are reminded to park sensibly when viewing from the bridges or the laybys.

This year’s run will be in aid of the Alzheimer's Society, and a Just Giving page has been set up for all those wishing to contribute who are not taking part in the run.
