The Lizard Sea Shanty Festival returns this weekend - and this year it is commemorating 200 years of the RNLI saving lives at sea.

Taking place at The Top House Inn, the event was opened yesterday evening by Tim Hague, followed by music from Months Advance, Bryher’s Boys, The Oggymen and Rob Ford.

The fun kicks off again today (Saturday, September 7) from 12 noon with an opening from Harry Glasson, who will be performing his iconic song Cornwall My Home.

There will then be music throughout the afternoon and evening, including from Culdrose Military Wives Choir, Landewednack School, the Cadgwith Singers, Odds N Sods and ending with Will Keating and friends.

There will be a hog roast running today, with part of the proceeds donated to the cause.

There will also be a raffle with prizes including hampers, vouchers and cash, plus a firm favourite in 'June’s tombola', and various local community stalls at the festival.

While admission to the festival is free, organisers are encouraging guests to consider donating to support the RNLI Lizard Lifeboat Station.

Every pound raised will go towards ensuring the RNLI can continue their vital life-saving work for another 200 years.

Tina Searle, one of the festival organisers, said: "We are thrilled to be hosting the Lizard Sea Shanty Festival at the Top House Inn for the second year.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together, enjoy incredible music, and show their support for a local charity."
