A new outdoor play and teaching area has been built for a nursery in Helston.

VIVO Defence Services and Dodd Group constructed the space for the Lizard CHILD Trust nursery, based in the grounds of St Michael's School.

It will allow children to learn and play outside, even when it rains.

The firm donated £3,000 for the project, and Dodd Group built the structure at no cost.

It is now ready for the new term and will enable the children to stay outside for longer as the weather changes in the coming months and beyond.

The children of many military families based at RNAS Culdrose use the nursery, and this will allow them to also use the great new outdoor space year-round.

Lizard CHILD Trust nursery manager Sarah Arthur said: "Wow, what an amazing shelter, I cannot express enough the difference this will make to our children’s learning and well-being.

"I would like to thank all involved in this project, the team worked so hard to ensure that the shelter was put up in a week, even when the weather was against them.

"They were superstars."

Amanda Hill, VIVO Defence Service’s operation director for the built estate across the southwest region, added: "At VIVO, we are committed to giving back to the communities we serve through our social value schemes.

"When our local built estate managers came to us with this joint proposal with Dodd Group for funding and building this scheme, we were more than happy to help as it will be a great resource for the children for years to come."

"It was a real team effort between ourselves and VIVO and a great example of how working together can maximise the social value that we can bring."
