Three dogs in Cornwall are looking for new homes after completing a welfare charity's latest training scheme.

K9 Crusaders Dog Welfare, in Bissoe, has been working with The Outdoor Place to help dogs complete the Kennel Club Good Citizens Dog Training Scheme (GCDTS) Bronze Award.

The charity hopes that the success of the event will help some of the dogs find new homes.

The event was held on Tuesday, August 27, and saw several dogs, some of whom are looking for new homes, pass the award.

The dogs and their handlers who took part in the training scheme were Esme and Dexter (Spaniel Cross), Ilyssa and Lexy (Collie Cross), Michael and Boid (Senior Resident), and Roan and Pippa (Cockapoo).

Dexter, Lexy, and Pippa are all looking for new homes.

The event was overseen by Kerrin Hollywood, and Mark Callis, the animal welfare service manager at Wandsworth Council, served as the accredited examiner for the Kennel Club's Good Citizens Dog Training Scheme.

Mark said: "It was such a pleasure to attend K9 Crusaders Dog Training to examine the Bronze level of the award.

"Some of the candidates were neurodiverse and young people with SEND, working with the charity The Outdoor Place.

"The standard was very good, and these people are a shining example of good and responsible dog ownership.

"There were no favours given during the examination; all candidates passed on their own merit.

"Some of the dogs tested were from K9 Crusaders rescue and are looking for new homes.

"I hope that having gained this level of the scheme, these dogs will have a better chance of finding their forever home.

"I am very impressed with the work that K9 Crusaders Dog Training and The Outdoor Place are doing with these young people, and touched to see that although I am 300 miles from home, neurodiversity is acknowledged and embraced here at K9 Crusaders alongside responsible dog ownership."

The success of the event has inspired the K9 Crusaders team to further develop their training scheme and include new participants in the coming years.

The collaboration with The Outdoor Place has proven to be a great partnership, and both organisations are committed to continuing their work together.
