Patients of Meneage Street Surgery will have a chance to get a sneak peek at the practice's new base this week before its official opening in April 2025.
The surgery announced plans to relocate to the former Budgens site in July, promising a more accessible and spacious location to better serve Helston and the surrounding areas.
On Thursday (September 12) the surgery is hosting an open event between 3pm and 6pm and invites patients to drop in and explore the new facility.
This is an opportunity for patients to see firsthand the progress being made and learn more about the exciting changes in store. It is also a chance for patients to ask questions or share any concerns they may have.
The new medical facility will occupy the upper ground floor of the building on Trengrouse Way, transforming the former supermarket space into a modern healthcare hub.
The facility will feature:
A purpose-built GP practice: Designed to meet the current and future needs of the town, the practice will utilise around three-quarters of the original supermarket floor space, incorporating 19 consulting and treatment rooms and support team rooms.
Community rooms: These spaces will be dedicated to promoting well-being and supporting both physical and mental health needs. They will also serve as meeting and social spaces for the community.
The new facility will be run by the Helios Health Partnership, which was established in 2023. This partnership brings together Meneage Street Surgery, Helston Medical Centre, Porthleven Surgery, and St Mary’s Health Centre on the Isles of Scilly, with a shared commitment to providing person-centred care.
In July Dr Jim Tait, GP partner at Helios Health Partnership, shared his enthusiasm for the move: “I’m delighted that we are able to deliver a much-needed increase in premises capacity for Helston.
“Our Meneage Street patients can look forward to a new GP surgery that is designed to the latest health standards and fully accessible.
“With the area’s population rising in age and need, we have to be able to address future health concerns and promote healthier lifestyles. This purpose-built facility will provide a notable amount of extra capacity to support both the physical and mental health needs of local residents.
“Alongside that, we have to be able to inspire, train, recruit and retain healthcare workers of all types here in our community.
“This building will allow us to do so, with dedicated training capacity.”
